Dating Ultrasound Scan Accuracy
How many scans are typical during pregnancy? I had my 6wk scan for EDD and want to know how many more 2 xpect?
I had a scan yesterday that showed I was 6 weeks 3 days and was given a due date. I dont think I would have been given an ultrasound if I had normal periods, but they really needed to know how far along I was. My doc said to come back for blood work and an ultrasound in 4 weeks, so I will be 10 weeks. How many can I expect during my pregnancy? Should I have one at 10 weeks, than 14 weeks, and another at about 18-20 or what? Also, do they normally do scans after 22 weeks? Another option is to go in for bloodwork at 10 weeks wait for the 2nd ultrasound untill 13 or 14 weeks. If I could afford it I would go every month but I am self-pay (no insurance) and it will get really expensive.
ALSO, if I wait till 22 weeks instead of 18 for the gender scan, will it have more accuracy on boy/girl???
I only had one ultrasound throughout my whole pregnancy and that was at 20 weeks. They were also able to determine the gender at 20 weeks. My doc said she normally only does an early ultrasound if the mother is unsure of the date of conception. But since I knew mine, i only had the one at 20 weeks. I think it also kinda depends how many your insurance will cover. I was on medicaid tho, so they would only cover the 20 week one, unless it was an emergency.
