In the song “Give Me That Old-Time Religion,” what exactly is the “old-time religion”?
I know that the song is a traditional Southern gospel piece that dates back to the mid-1800s, if that helps…So, what makes Southern Baptist Christianity the “old-time religion?”
The old-time religion is when blacks and women knew their place and stayed there.
