Dating Romania

NY Times had an article on very ancient civilization in Romania, Bulgaria. Can you provide date, name?
The civilization predated the Egypticians and Fertile Crescent. They were particularly skilled in coppor and gold and ceramics. I believe the name is something like Curteci. I’d like to find the article in the NY Times again, but just can’t.
that was very interesting. it makes you wonder how many more of these older civilisations have yet to be found.
