Dating Flowchart

how is relative dating done (paleontology)and where do u find fossil formation flowcharts.. i tried everywhere
like what’s the process you know stuff like that
i also need a pic about fossil flowcharts
Relative dating is based upon the principle that the rock layer deposited on top of other layers must be more recent. Consequently, if you work out the sequence of deposit, then you’re also working out the chronological series as well. In some cases, you can apply some of the information to formations elsewhere, for example by using index fossils.
Often useful index fossils include those ammonite things. Some species are known to only have persisted for a relatively short space of geological time, but to have been fairly widespread in terms of geography. Sometimes, they can help with indicating rock layers in separate continents date from very similar ages. All kinds of fossils can be useful for such purposes, but the best ones tend to be sea critters. Things get trickier with terrestrial deposits, but various lines of such evidence can help there as well. Freshwater shelled things called ostracods can be useful, as can pollen, other plant remains and, to some extent, land vertebrates including mammals, reptiles, amphibians and so on.
