Ruined Chances with bad phone call before first date?

I talked to this girl a couple of times and eventually called her number. she texted me saying lets talk more on aim but I told her I dont like to instant message and called her instead (planning on asking her out on a date then)
But the phone call went terribly and she completely froze up and there was even a 3-5 second silence. Ultimately I just made up an excuse that I had to go somewhere and told her Id talk to her later and hung up?
