Oct 10, 1903 – Inaugural meeting of WSPU
May 12, 1904 Protest meeting outside Parliament after the talking out of the Women’s Suffrage Bill.
Oct 13, 1905 – first imprisonments – Christabel Pankhurst & Annie Kenney – after ‘disrupting’ a political meeting at the Manchester Free Trade Hall (they asked questions and held up banners).
May 19, 1906 – first big demonstration.
Feb 13, 1907 – first Women’s Parliament at Caxton Hall.
March 8 1907 – Women’s Suffrage Bill rejected.
Oct 1907 – first issue of the paper ‘Votes for Women’.
June 21 1908 – Great Hyde Park Meeting at which the purple, white an green became the colours of the movement.
July 5 1909 – Marion Wallace Dunlop imprisoned and begins first hunger strike.
Sept 24 1909 – first force feeding (in Birmingham).
February 14 1910 – truce declared pending the outcome of the Conciliation Bill.
July 1910 – Conciliation Bill ‘timed-out’ (passed first 2 readings but got no further).
Nov 18, 1910 – Black Friday.
April 2 1911 – boycott of national census.
May 5 1911 – Conciliation Bill debated again and passes reading.
Nov 7 1911 – Asquith announces Manhood Suffrage Bill, effectively ending the Conciliation Bill.
March 5 1912 – police raid on WSPU HQ, and following this the arrest of most of the leaders.
March 25 1912 – The Prisoners’ Temporary Discharge Act passed (Cat and Mouse Act).
April 3 1912 – Mrs Pankhurst sentenced to 3 years penal servitude.
April 15 1913 – Suffragette open air meetings prohibited.
April 30 1913 – WSPU HQ raided.
June 4 1913 – Emily Wilding Davison at the Derby.
June 9 – 17 1913 – most leaders arrested and sentenced to long terms in prison.
May 23 1914 – police raid on HQ.
Aug 10 1914 – Mrs Pankhurst suspends militancy following the outbreak of war. All prisoners unconditionally released.
January 11, 1918 – limited right to vote for women granted.
