How long once your IRS return is pulled for review do you receive your refund?
I e-filed through H&R block free online and my refund was accepted 1/30/09. I checked online at WMR and was told that my refund would be available on or before 2/17/09. That date rolled around and due to “processing delays” would be available on or before 3/3/09. Checked last week and was told funds are scheduled for direct deposit 2/27/09, but if it hasn’t been recieved by 4/4 to check with my bank. Today is 3/3, still no deposit even pending, and when I finally got through to IRS I was told my refund had been pulled last minute for review — even though it says today that the money has already been deposited– and that I should expect a letter. I spent part of this money already since when I checked this weekend the site said it was already deposited! What is going on with the IRS? When I check online all I see are people posting about refund delays
There are literally hundreds of reasons that a return can be pulled for review. An extremely common one is the Earned Income Credit, especially new claims, claims involving dependents who were claimed by someone else in a prior year and claims involving self-employment income that is sufficient to qualify for the maximum EIC.
You’ll just have to wait for the IRS to complete the review. If they said that they will send you a letter then you’ll have to wait for it.
